BENEFITING: American Assistance for Cambodia, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Jun 08, 2014
I just started running 18 months ago - but with the support of a friend am near the end of training for my first half marathon! I am thrilled to use this as another opportunity to help kids in Cambodia - a country still reeling from the effects of the Khmer Rouge and neighboring war in Vietnam - make a better life for themselves and their families.
This picture is the school that my family funded in my grandmother's name after her death several years ago - it provides education to over 100 kids who otherwise would be at risk of not finishing their education, having to join their families' subsistence farms or even being sold into sexual slavery, which is a big problem in Cambodia due to its extreme poverty. My grandmother supported our education, so this seemed a fitting way to remember her.
The Ulla Tullberg school also has a "victory garden" that provides lunch for its students - the garden was created in my cousin Anna's name after she died in 2008. Your donations will help support both the garden's ongoing operations (seedlings, harvesting, a cook, etc.) as well as an English/computer teacher for the school.
If you are able to donate, please make a note that it is for school #344, the Ulla Tullberg School.
Thank you for your support!
