BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation
EVENT: New York City 2015
EVENT DATE: Sep 27, 2015
This year Katherine and I will be running in Tunnel to Towers, in honor of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11th, 2001. Stephen Siller was on his way to play golf when he heard the news of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers. He immediately drove his truck to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it was already closed. Without giving it a second thought, he decided to strap all 60lbs of gear to his back and ran from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he heroically gave his life while saving others. Stephen’s life and heroic death serve as reminder to us all to live life to the fullest and to spend our time here on earth doing good – this is his legacy.
Although anyone who knows us knows there is no shot either of us could strap 60lbs to our backs, we will be running this 5k to honor his memory, as well as the memory of those 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 paramedics, and all of our troops who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.
Coming from a family of firefighters, police officers, war vets, and nurses in New York City, this is a foundation very close to our heart so we ask that you please donate whatever you can to the cause. All proceeds go directly to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. We appreciate all of your support!
“The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom.
--Rudolph W. Giuliani.”
The mission of our Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
