BENEFITING: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
EVENT DATE: Sep 07, 2013
When my grandmother died, she left a void in my life that I’m still trying to figure out. In doing so, I’ve chosen to honor her and her memory.
My grandma was a very charitable and kind woman; even on her worst days with cancer she'd say "could be worse". In honor of her memory and the way she lived her life, I would like to give to a charity that I think makes a difference every day. When she died, she asked that everyone donate to St. Jude's; this was because she had done so in honor of her grandchildren every year. I have chosen to donate to the American Cancer Society in honor of my grandmother and attempt to return the gratitude I feel for how lucky I was to have her in my life.
I will be participating in the Malta BPA 5K on September 7th, 2013. For those who know me, I suffer from exercise-induced asthma. I have never participated in sports, and my asthma was found when I passed out at the Freighofer's Run for Kids when I was a child. I am doing this to honor a woman I love very much.
In doing so, I ask that individuals sponsor my run and donate to the American Cancer Society to help others who suffer from cancer and to assist in finding a cure so that others like me won't have to lose their grandmas to this awful disease.
My goal is to raise the same amount I paid to participate and train to be in the race - any more than that is a blessing and true testament to my grandmother.
