It is with great excitement that I announce I will be running for the Double H Ranch by joining Team Hole in the Wall for the 119th Boston Marathon on April 20th, 2015!
With the money I raise and the 26.2miles I run, I will be helping to provide the joy and magic of Camp to children and families coping with serious illness. When you donate, 100% of your donation directly benefits the camps and programs that provide this life-changing experience free of charge to our children and their families.
I have had the opportunity to be a part of Double H since the summer of 2009. I began as a summer camp counselor and in December of 2013 became a year-round employee. In addition to the summer camp program, Double H Ranch offers an Adaptive Winter Sports program and spring and fall family weekends; again at no cost to all that attend. These programs support families coping with cancer, neuromuscular disorders, Immune Disorder/HIV, bleeding disorders, sickle cell anemia, and many more.
The campers are my inspiration in deciding to run 26.2 miles. They come to camp with a 110% determination, ready to participate in all activities (ropes course, white water rafting, zip-lining, horseback riding and much more) despite their disabilities. Regardless of the challenge, they have a smile on their face and radiate confidence. In comparison to what our campers face on a daily basis, running a marathon seems insignificant.
It is amazing to see how children who originate from all different backgrounds come together as a group and learn from one another. The impact camp has on our campers is truly like no other. I struggle to put into words the impact that camp has had on my life and how grateful I am for becoming a part of this inspiring organization. I am forever thankful to camp for making me the person I am today. Camp has taught me to enjoy the little moments, embrace every day, the importance of acceptance and the power of determination.
Paul Newman once said, “Camp is a place for children to kick back and raise a little hell”. Camp gives the children we serve the opportunity to just be a kid. In the “real world” our campers are often told “no” they are unable to do something because of their illness, but here at camp we give them that yes. That yes that instills them with the confidence to be the child they never thought they could be; camp allows you to see a person for who they really are.
It is said that there is a “magic to camp” and everyone who is a part of camp is forever changed. It is in the experiences you share together – the belly laughs, the feeling of accomplishment, and the camaraderie you form – that remains in your heart forever.
Our campers attend summer programming free of charge through generous donations. Please consider donating to this cause and giving a child a life-changing experience!
Your donation can help camp in so many ways, for example:
Can supply s’mores for an evening campfire $25.00
Can bring therapeutic fun to a child in a hospital $100.00
Can sponsor a camper for a family weekend $250.00
Can provide a camper with a fun-filled day of camp $500.00
Can teach a child to ski/snowboard for a weekend $1,000.00
Can give a child a life-changing session at camp $2,500.00
I cannot thank you enough for your donation to this amazing organization and wanting to spread the word about camp with me!
