BENEFITING: Easter Seals Hawaii
The Easter Seals Hawaii (ESH) is the ONLY organization on the island of Oahu that offers regular out-of-school activities for youths with disabilities or special needs. The Youth Services (YS) program provides life and social skill development as well as recreational opportunities in a safe, nurturing environment designed to support and encourage self-esteem, independence and social growth.
The annual cost of the YS program is $121,453. This much needed program relies on foundations, corporations and the generosity of people like you! Many youths with disabilities or special needs in Oahu deserve a program that offers fun activities with an educational spin that are spear-headed by a qualified team of activity leaders, technology specialists and more. Our programs are focused on helping them become independent by teaching everyday life responsibilities, social skills, technology and offering outings like water sports, going to a movie theatre, visiting museums and art galleries, etc.
Help us empower others to become independent! Some of our former participants in our Youth Services have made significant contributions to their families and the community. For example, one YS participant started out as an arts and crafts enthusiast. She later developed the skills needed to lead the class in art projects. She prepares lessons and materials and teaches projects to all who attend. As another example, several youth diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder helped ESH develop Hawaii Department of Education standards-based curriculum for autistic high school students. There are numerous success stories from our YS program. Help us continue to provide for Oahu’s youth!
