BENEFITING: CHESAPEAKE CLIMATE ACTION NETWORK
EVENT: CCAN Polar Plunge 2016
EVENT DATE: Jan 30, 2016
This January 23, I'll jump into the freezing cold Potomac River for a second time in order to raise money for an important cause - keeping winter cold and stopping global climate change.
If you know me, you know I've fought for 6+ years to make the economy more just by supporting workers and their unions. But I know that we cannot silo ourselves in single issues and that fundamentally, both economic justice and climate change are about one thing – corporate greed. I know that working class people are the first affected by climate changes. Climate justice is economic justice, and we cannot ignore the ongoing destruction of the environment.
This fundraiser benefits the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, a great group of activists and organizers working in Maryland, DC and Virginia on environmental issues right here in our community. From fighting oil trains in Baltimore, fracking in western Maryland and natural gas exports facility in Calvert County, CCAN is on the front lines in solidarity with the community activists who would be most affected by these dirty energy projects.
