My running journey began in on Labor Day, 2008 when I finished my first half-marathon. Less than three months later, even though close friends thought there was no way I'd be ready, I finished the Richmond Marathon. From that point on, you could say I've been hooked on running.
Fast forward to March 27th, 2013. Ten days after finishing my 28th marathon, I was diagnosed with Cutaneous T-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It's a relatively rare form of cancer, accounting for 2-3% of Non-Hodgkins diagnoses, or 1600 new cases each year. Because T-Cell Lymphoma has no cure, getting my cancer into remission is my immediate goal.
I want to run the Boston Marathon for two main reasons. I'm excited about the opportunity to raise money to fight cancer by supporting breakthrough treatments at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. I also want to show those around me, and especially my three teenagers, that with every step I run, I'm not letting cancer get the best of me. Thanks for thinking about supporting the cause.
