Hello good people! I am a Charlotte native. This summer (June 8th-19th)I have decided to embark on a truly EPIC journey! I hope you can support this wondeful cause.
The event is sponsored by the Foundation for Tomorrow, which is a non-profit organzation run by my friend Meghann Gundermann. Her sincere dedication to this noble cause is truly inspiring! Her love, caring and compassion for these children is truly a gift from God. I am going to Tanzania a couple days early to check out the operations and I greatly appeciated her warm invitation to visit before the bike ride.
RIDETZ is a 400 mile donor bike ride in Tanzania East Africa. This group of 20 amazing individuals will ride 400 miles from Kilmanjaro to the Indian Ocean along the ancient slave trade route.
Why I am doing this? A few reasons. It is a truly amazing cause. By helping orphaned kids get an education and to feed, clothe and shelter them as well. After age 5, orphaned kids are on there own. Families cannot afford to support them past this age.
To get out my comfort zone and see other aspects of the world and to broaden my horizons.
I have been inspired by a good buddy of mine that recently fell in love with Africa. He sponsors a couple kids and when he asks them what they want, they tell him they want books. This shows the true hearts and characters of these children. They do not care of material things, but are only hungry for knowledge. What better way to help these kids out than do a 400 mile donor bike ride? It's a win win situation. I get to help the kids out and in the process get to experience an epic life changing experience!
I also think it was God's will for me to embark on this adventure. Having been sober over a year now, I picked up mountain biking and have run wild with it. I honestly think God's intentions were for me to be prepared physically for this very challenging philantropy cause.
I hope you will support me and greatly appreciate any support! Thanks and God Bless. Peace be with everyone!
HERE'S THE STORY:
RIDETZ began as a vision to combine Tanzania’s culture, land, and people with athletic challenge and fundraising efforts. Over the years, many of the individuals who support The Foundation For Tomorrow (TFFT) have expressed an interest in traveling to Tanzania to witness TFFT’s impact. We wanted to provide this opportunity and to expand it to include a comprehensive view of the country considering it is a remarkably beautiful place.
Why not travel by bicycle? From Mount Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean? Along an ancient slave trade route?
It is a labor of love, and in June 2012 the second group of RIDETZ riders will mount their bikes to begin RIDETZ’s arduous and exhilarating 10-day journey.
