BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
EVENT DATE: May 15, 2016
It's hard to believe a year has gone by since I competed in my first stair climb, running to the 90th floor of the Freedom Tower. When I found out they had upped the ante this year to the 102nd floor, I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to compete again for such a great cause.
For the second year in a row, I'm proud to be raising donations for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization founded in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller. Like so many others, Stephen bravely gave his life on September 11, 2001 while saving others. Unable to get through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel with his truck, Stephen equipped himself with 60lbs worth of gear and proceeded to run from the tunnel to the Twin Towers. I encourage all of you to visit their website (http://tunnel2towers.org/) to learn more about Stephen's story and how you can get involved.
I'm thrilled to be honoring the men and women who courageously charged up the World Trade Center without hesitation, searching for those in need of assistance. I realize my participation in this race pales in comparison to the sacrifice made by first responders many years ago. However, I do so in memory of Stephen Siller, the rest of the brave men and women who lost their lives that fateful day, and those who continue to make sacrifices for us every single day.
