Evans Open Heart Surgery & Ethans Appendectomy
Organized by: Katie Wong
EVENT DATE Dec 15, 2015
My husband, John and I, have hit a major up hill battle these last couple of months with finding out that our youngest son, Evan who is two, needs to have open heart surgery in Gainesville, FL; and our oldest son, Ethan who is five, recently had an appendectomy from a perforated appendix and is now on home health care with a PICC line. We are slowly loosing this uphill battle physically, mentally, and financially. Thankfully, we do have good health insurance, however, these expensive procedures are not covered 100% until we meet our out-of-pocket expense of $6,540. With me being out of work for the last two weeks during Ethan's stay in the hospital, has seriously hampered our ability to afford our day-to-day expenses. Not to mention coming up with the money to travel to Gainesville in less than a week for Evan's heart surgery, and having to miss yet another week and a half of work while I stay in Gainesville with Evan, and pay for a place to stay and food to eat while I'm there. Additionally, we will have to find other means of childcare since I won't be home and able to pick Ethan up from school, and my husband's place of employment isn't as lenient with time missed (plus we can't afford for him to miss work too as he does not have enough paid leave saved), we will have to enroll Ethan in wrap around VPK which is $90 per week at his school. Needless to say, our heads are about under water with all these extra expenses and medical bills. Not to mention Christmas is coming up and any extra money we have will be going towards travel and medical expenses, and we're worried we won't even be able to give our kids a proper Christmas. We've got a lot on our plate these next few to several months and are reluctantly asking for any kind of assistance anyone is able to provide to try and help ease our untimely hardship. My husband and I both really dislike having to ask for help as we feel like failures and like we are unable to provide for children, but we feel like we've run out of options =/
Even if you're not able to help financially, please help by sharing our story with your friends, family, and/or church community and please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Also, a huge thank you to friends and family for your continued love and support during our struggles, we wouldn't be able to make it through without y'all!
