BENEFITING: MOTHERS2MOTHERS INTERNATIONAL INC
Nancy Jacobs wrote -I'm turning 62 this Feb 10th, and this year I would love to make my birthday count. So I'm dedicating it to mothers2mothers (m2m.org), a cause that has long been close to my heart. Any chronic illness is a very difficult and omnipresent burden to bear, and think -- all the more so when you are raising children in difficult circumstances and with few resources. And when you risk passing a life-threatening illness along to your baby. Most of us, regardless of what troubles we may face, are blessed to live in a place where we can see a doctor when we are ill. The families mothers2mothers serve don't have that luxury...Mentor Mothers are the ones in the community who help them prevent the transmission of HIV to their children, get treatment themselves, and make healthy choices so they can raise their families. Please help support them and their lifesaving work. The new administration cutting 40% from foreign assistance could make it much more difficult for organizations that serve women and children in resource-poor countries. I know that there are many calls for action and funds right now for important causes, but if you can give even a small amount, it all adds up. Aging isn’t always easy for us, but every child deserves the privilege. Since its founding in 2001, m2m has reached 1.5 million HIV-positive mothers in nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa. m2m trains, employs, and empowers HIV-positive mothers as frontline healthcare workers in understaffed health centers and communities. Please help them continue this important work. After my 62nd trip around the sun, I see more and more that the children of the future are the hope of the world.
