BENEFITING: Every Mother Counts
ORGANIZER: Every Mother Counts
I am honored (and slightly horrified) to be running my second marathon for EMC – a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother thru their support of maternal health programs around the world.
Many of you know the involvement I’ve had with EMC over the years, and that one of my first jobs at age 19 was working for a maternal health organization called Childbirth Connection. Both have opened my eyes to the importance of quality maternal health care...and far too often the lack thereof.
But this year the issue hit close to home: I saw multiple friends struggle with birth-related complications that would have been life-threatening had they not had access to care. It's a sobering and heartbreaking reminder. This run is for them, and for the 800 women a day who aren't as fortunate.
Now some good news: 98% of these deaths can be prevented. We have the tools and the know-how to save these mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, teachers, caregivers and community leaders—if we make it a priority.
I hope you'll consider supporting my run - and moms everywhere - by donating to Team EMC. And if you happen to be in Chicago on October 9, come out and cheer us on!
