Headed to Chicago with Hurricane Matthew bearing down on Haiti.

BENEFITING: Every Mother Counts
ORGANIZER: Every Mother Counts
I have officialy joined Team Every Mother Counts to run The Chicago Marathon. As many of you know I have been a dedicated supporter of EMC since it's inception and ran the NYC Marathon in 2014 raising both funds and awarness for the cause. As it turns out, I have another marthon in me and I am so pleased to have the opportunity to support this vital organization again.
Last fall I travelled to Haiti to set up a birth clinic supported by EMC and run by Midwives for Haiti - an EMC grantee. I saw first hand how all this fundraising is making a difference in the world. This clinic is in the most rural part of Haiti, tucked away in a beautiful and incredibly underserved area called Cabestor. Villagers here live simply with no electricity or running water. They transport their goods to the local market on donkeys. They go to school and church and play until the sun goes down. Maternal care looks pretty grim here and maternal and infant mortality rates are staggering. Please read this blog post from EMC's website describing how Every Mother Counts has helped improve the maternal healthcare landscape in rural Haiti.
Any donation you make ($5 to $5000!) to support my run helps women and their families here in the United States and around the world. Every mother deserves a safe pregnancy and childbirth experience.
EVERY MOTHER COUNTS IS RUNNING THE 2016 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON IN SUPPORT OF MATERNAL HEALTH AROUND THE WORLD.
Hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth each year. That's 800 women every day. The good news is that 98% of these deaths can be prevented. We have the tools and the know-how to save these mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, teachers, doctors, caregivers and community leaders—if we make it a priority.
Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. We inform, engage, and mobilize new audiences to take actions and raise funds that support maternal health programs around the world.
This year, join us in solidarity to run the 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon and continue raising awareness about this global tragedy. We've chosen to participate in the race because often distance is the biggest barrier to a woman and her family getting the care they need. We hope to not only increase awareness for the cause but to also make the vital connection for people that so many pregnant women live far from health services around the world and that distance does make a difference. Simply put, we want to run so that others don't have to...
And now, we're hoping you will lend your support no matter how big or small. When you donate, 100% of your donation goes directly to support maternal health programs on the ground. Here are some ways you can get involved.
