BENEFITING: Every Mother Counts
ORGANIZER: Every Mother Counts
EVENT: DR: Healdsburg 2016
EVENT DATE: Oct 29, 2016
This fall, I am running my first half marathon. I am so excited to accomplish this personal goal! But, I am even more excited to run this race for Every Mother Counts. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization that strives to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for all women. They accomplish this goal by providing resources to address the chief barriers to maternal health worldwide - transportation, education, and supplies.
The timing of this race is not coincidental. I'm running this half marathon just weeks before my baby's first birthday. I chose this specific race and charity to honor the 303,000 women who die each year from childbirth and pregnancy complications. That means every two minutes, one mother dies. Increasing access to maternal healthcare hits home for me because of complications I suffered during both of my pregnancies. Both pregnancies caused hypertension before, during, and after childbirth, and required treatment even weeks after leaving the hospital. My boys and I are here and healthy because I had access to high quality and appropriate medical care. I'm running this half marathon to make sure other mothers and babies have a chance for the same safe outcome.
I hope you will consider supporting Every Mother Counts and me by donating to this run. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you for your support!
