BENEFITING: RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OF INDIANA INC
EVENT DATE: Dec 15, 2014
EV's Christmas Stockings is a way to help bring some cheer to parents and families who are celebrating the Holidays while their infatn is in critical condition in the hospital. This program was born from a deep hurt. My identical twin girls, Emmerson and Vivienne, never made it home from the hospital. And though they are not with us physically, we still include them in our Christmas traditions.
I have worked as a RN in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I have seen how hard it is, both financially and emotionally, for parents to see their newborn baby in the hospital, fighting for their life.
I know how this hurts.
Since the first Christmas we celebrated without Emmerson and Vivienne, I wanted to extend the way in which we celebrate them and Christmas with others. I want to extend some Christmas cheer and hope to other families while they are hurting and in unimaginable, unforeseen circumstances.
EV's Christmas Stockings will provide a stocking to each infant in the NICU at Riley Children's Hospital and St. Vincent's Women's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. The stockings will be filled with items for the baby such as books, hard toys (that can be wiped down), bibs, small hats, socks, and memento items such as Baby's First Christmas Ornament, charm bracelets, picture frames, and guardian angel pins. There will also be items in the stockings for the parents. Items such as pre-packaged snacks, tissues, chewing gum, breath mints, journals, gift cards and gas cards. Many families are driving far distances to be with their baby while he or she is in the hospital, resulting in high food and gas bills.
We also will be providing Mother's who experience the unimagainable loss of losing their baby with piece of jewelry they can personalize.
With the money we raise here, we will be purchasing gift and/or gas cards, the personalized pieces of jewelry, and the other items in the hopes to alleviate some financial stress and bring a little cheer during the holiday season.
