We are a student group at Tufts University that works on sustainable engineering projects in developing countries.
We've been working in El Porvenir, El Salvador since 2009, focusing on the potable water supply, (spring boxes, a shallow well, and rainwater harvesting).
In January 2011, EWB-Tufts, in partnership with a local NGO, Epilogos, and the Porvenir Association for Community Development, implemented improvements to the existing spring box, increasing the capacity, convenience and safety of the potable water system.
Our next step is to build a community center complete with solar-powered outlets, which will provide a place to charge cell phones, listen to the radio, and plug in a light for this community that is currently without any electricity.
The goal of this community center is to improve the standard of living, as well as create a stronger social infrastructure within the community, that would improve inner community relations, as well as assist in the success of future projects in this community.
