BENEFITING: WESTERN ALLIANCE FOR NATURE
The Markham's Storm Petrel is a seabird living off the coasts of Peru and Chile. Little is known about its life history. In order to protect this fascinating, tiny, oceanic (pelagic) seabird, it is CRITICAL to locate their breeding and nesting sites, suspected to be in areas designated for mining.
Until April 27, 2014 only 1 small nesting colony had been found in Peru. A pre-expedition exploration, sponsored by the Western Alliance for Nature, just resulted in the monumental discovery of nests in the Chilean desert. We need funds to get the complete picture as quickly as possible to protect them.
The very first photos and videos ever of a Storm Petrel in a desert nesting cavity were taken during this initial exploration, clearly indicating the critical need for further study.
This project will be undertaken by a team of volunteers but funds are needed to cover their expenses. 100% of your donation goes directly to the expedition. The Western Alliance for Nature never charges ad min, overhead or any other fees.
PLEASE HELP US PROTECT THIS IMPORTANT SEABIRD. THANK YOU!
