Travel to the World Humanitarian Summit
Organized by: Brent Dixon
= What is this for? =
Hello! This CrowdRise is a fundraiser to help fund travel and basic expenses for me to attend and support two projects during the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit. As some of you know, I work for an organization that supports humanitarian response. Because of logistical challenges, they're not able to provide funding for me to attend the event.
= Why is the WHS important? =
We are currently witnessing the largest humanitarian crisis of our lifetime. The From May 23 - 24 is the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS), the world's largest gathering of humanitarian organizations.
This Summit will focus on advancing action around conflict prevention, peacebuilding, equality and inclusivity, creating new operational and financial models.
= What, specifically, will my role be in the WHS? =
For the last year, I've been helping create and lead a team that supports innovation in the global development community. At WHS, I'll be co-leading two projects:
- Presenting a technology project designed to help humanitarian organizations in the Middle East and Northern Africa use public data to more accurately assess and respond to community needs around health, water and sanitation, early recovery, child protection, and more.
- Co-organizing and coaching a hackathon focused on generating solutions to support refugees (https://www.worldhumanitariansummit.org/summit/specialevents/hack4humanity).
The Summit will also allow me to get face-to-face time with central humanitarian actors and members from affected communities.
= Bottomline: What's the ask? =
I'm asking for funding to cover airfare (current price is $855 on Aeroflot airlines, I expect it will go up at least $100 by the time this fundraiser is over) from New York to Istanbul, Turkey, and hotel expenses for 4 nights.
Believe me when I say I've pursued many options for finding funding, and this is a last option. I'm extremely grateful for anything you can contribute. Thank you!
