BENEFITING: Experience Camps
ORGANIZER: Experience Camps
For the past two years I have been a part of the Experience Camp family. Experience camp is a special place where children get to come to play and not feel alone. Not alone because all the other children, and some adults, have also experienced a death of a significant person in their life. It's a one-week, free camp, run by volunteers and clinicians. And it's the best experience ever.
Some of you may know that I experienced a significant death early on in my life. My Aunt Nancy was taken far too early from this world. It took me a long time to fully realize what I was feeling and it wasn't until High School that I really started to grasp what the loss meant to me. None of my friends wanted to hear about it. None of them understood. Quite a few of them told me "It was a long time ago. It shouldn't matter anymore." Well it did matter and although it was in the past by years it was still in my mind. What I wish I had was Experience Camps. A place I could have gone as a child to get to understand my feelings and make life long connections with others that knew where I was coming from. That wanted to talk about their person. That needed to talk about their person. And so, I want to give at least two more kids that opportunity.
My fundraiser is set for a goal of $2,000. It takes a $1,000 dollar donation to send one camper, but I would like to send at least 2. Please help me to allow more children to attend this life-changing camp. I thank you in advance and I know that my Experience Camp family also thanks you for your help to make more children feel like they are part of this family, that they are not alone.
The ultimate cherry on top, if Experience Camps gets the most donations for this Revlon Love is On competition, and it is possible, camp will also earn an extra $1,000,000!! That's enough to send 1,000 campers to camp, plus all the money that was donated to get there. If that's not an incentive, I don't know what is.

Experience Camps are one-week camps for boys and girls who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. It's a place where kids can laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, or forget the grief that weighs them down. It's a place where they can feel "normal", because everyone there has been through something similar and understands what it's like to lose someone important to them. It's a home away from home. And just about everyone will tell you..."It's the best week of the year".
This year, we're raising money to keep the magic going, expanding our camper numbers, camp locations and year-round programs so that campers can stay connected and never feel alone in their grief.
