BENEFITING: Vermont Workers' Center and Migrant Justice
ORGANIZER: Vermont Workers' Center and Migrant Justice
EVENT: Exercise Your Rights
In college I was the slowest member on a 12 person cross country team that went to NCAA nationals. That said, back in those halcyon days I whipped out a 5 mile race in under 30 minutes. In the spirit of recapturing sepia tinted, somewhat faded glory, while simultaneously helping fundraise for two of the most amazing social movements in the US, I've signed up for a Saturday, August 17 5k race. In sponsoring me you'll be doing more than helping a friend, you'll be donating to The Vermont Workers Center and Migrant Justice; you'll be helping make Healthcare a Human Right for all Vermonters; you'll be preventing deportations and give voice to invisible migrant populations; and you'll be working to implement a state budget budget which is mandated "to address the needs of the people of Vermont in a way that advances human dignity and equity." You'll be helping to build a world which truly Puts People First.
(Social justice -unlike running- isn't an affair well suited for singular Jackie Joyner-Kersee or Steve Prefontaine-esque individuals. We can all be movement builders in this beauitful struggle to fulfill all of our human rights with the Ride for Human Rights on July 14th or find a race, hike, bike, dance-a-thon and sign up here).
