Since opening in March 1999, the FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic has made a huge impact in the city of Indianapolis. FACE has performed more than 215,000 spay and neuter surgeries, dramatically reducing pet overpopulation in Indy.
Example? At the end of the year 2000, just after FACE opened, 22,000 cats and dogs were killed in Indianapolis shelters. Because of our work, and thanks to the efforts of rescue groups that continue to pull animals from kill shelters, the number of animals euthanized in Indianapolis was just over 6,500 at the end of 2012.
We know that high volume spay/neuter is making a difference. Had the FACE Spay/Neuter Clinic not opened, an estimated 24,000 to 30,000 cats and dogs would be dying in Indianapolis shelters each year.
And the numbers continue to decline – Indianapolis Animal Care and Control has reported that 13,666 dogs and cats were received in 2013 and 5,014 were euthanized. That's 1,486 fewer dogs and cats than were euthanized in 2012. Help us continue to reduce that number!
