BENEFITING: NYU Langone Medical Center
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I am so excited to say that I am currently training to run my first marathon. I will be running the New York City Marathon on November 6th, 2016! I am running with Team FACES, which is something my family has been involved with for years. FACES stands for finding a cure for epilepsy and seizures, and was started by my sister Alicia's neurologist, Orrin Devinsky. As a lot of you already know, my sister was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2003 at the age of three. It has been such a roller coaster for my family, but my sister is so strong. Alicia began seeing Dr. Devinsky at NYU Medical Center in 2009 and has made significant improvements under his care, which includes two brain surgeries (2009, 2011) by Dr. Howard Weiner. They are an amazing team, and I’m so happy to be running on a team for them!
My mother has put on many successful fundraisers for epilepsy awareness and research, and now it’s my turn. There is no cause that I believe in more than FACES, and the things they have done for my family are remarkable, including providing us with housing in NYC while my sister was in the hospital long term. Epilepsy is severely underfunded and takes an alarming amount of lives per year. The mission of FACES is to improve the quality of life for all those affected by epilepsy and seizures, through research and support.
With all of this being said, if you would like to make a (tax deductible) donation to this cause, I would be so appreciative. Nothing is too small, and 100% of the money raised goes FACES. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this!
