This year, my mom and dad, Ms. Neilwadee and Dr. Kriengkrai Sathirapongsasuti, are volunteering as a pharmacist and a doctor at the Buddhagaya Thai Temple Clinic in a small rural town of Bodh Gaya, Bihar, one of the poorest state in India. In addition to treating the locals, they treat monks and nuns who travel great distance to this holy Buddhist town.
This September 1st is my 30th birthday, and you probably weren’t going to be buying me a present, but in case you were — I’d love it if you could give to this instead, because it would mean a lot to me. Your donation will go toward buying medical supplies (something as simple as medical record books and folders are hard to come by), life-saving medicines, and quality medical devices. I'm doing this to give back — would love your support.
ps. Some people says I should give suggested donation. So here it is:
- $10 -- Thank you note signed by yours truly.
- $30 -- Thank you note + handmade bracelet from Thailand (pic).
- $100 -- Thank you note + bracelet + personalized souvenir from India.
Apparently, with $10 in India, you can buy 20 liters of milk or hire at least three workers for a day.
ps. My dad is my hero. As an internist who treats all of his patients, from the richest to the poorest, with dignity and respect, my dad has showed me the meaning of "the gift of health" and inspired me to use my ability to better the lives of others. When asked if he was tired, he replied "I'm really tired, but my heart is filled with happiness, giving alms, praying, meditating, treating monks, nuns, novice monks, and locals. The weather is hot, rainy, and humid, but I'm well. I completely forget the busy city life with this calm and simple life. I don't have to worry if patients could afford to pay or want to buy their way to health, because all is free!"
ps. If you can read Thai, you can find more information about the clinic here.
