Harvest Hope with Fair Trade USA:
EVERY DONATION WILL BE MATCHED
Cocoa farmers in the Ivory Coast—the world’s largest cocoa-producing country—earn less than $2 per day for their hard work. Poverty and the absence of schools in many rural communities force many families to take their children with them into the fields.
In 2013, 2,500 farmers in seven cooperatives throughout the Ivory Coast became Fair Trade Certified. Through certification farmers received training on economic, environmental, and social best practices.
Their reward for Fair Trade Certification: $1 million in community development premiums in 2013, which were invested in school construction, scholarships, a new health clinic, and supplemental income generation projects.
The farmers in the Ivory Coast are not alone. Over 1 billion farmers and workers around the world still have not been able to realize the benefits of Fair Trade. While Fair Trade USA has worked hard to improve the lives of millions of people and their communities there is much more work to be done.
Donate to Fair Trade USA today to help improve the lives of farmers and workers around the world.
