BENEFITING: Ihangane Project
2015 has been an incredible year for The Ihangane Project. After three years, we are witnessing the amazing outcomes in our Ruli program that result from taking the time and patience to listen to and learn from our community partners. Help us reach our fall fundraising goal of $10,000 to support the sustainability of the Ruli program and further our mission of reimagining the way health care is delivered and received in communities around the world.
Here are some highlights from Ruli:
- We expanded the Nutrition for HIV-Exposed Infants Clinical Program (NHI) to include HIV+ women during pregnancy.
- NHI participants experienced a 17% decrease in malnutrition and an 800% increase in HIV testing.
- NHI participants are able to articulate the importance of good nutrition and the use of fortified foods to promote health.
- We completed construction of a porridge production facility and are producing our own fortified porridge via a small business that will be self-sustaining and cover the costs of our clinical program by 2016.
As you can see, the results have been astounding.
And, most importantly, we are working with the local community to strengthen their capacity to sustain programming over the long-term, without relying on outside support.
We have come so far, and could not have done it without the support of our friends. Please donate to help us achieve our long-term goals of fully transitioning this amazing programming to the local community, sharing what we have learned about effective health interventions with the broader international development community, and taking our successful model to other communities around the world!
