As most of you know our youngest son, Declan, was diagnosed, at birth, with unilateral hearing loss. Declan is severely and profoundly deaf in one ear, with 100% hearing in the other. He wears a BAHA hearing aid (on a nifty little headband) to maximize the hearing of his good ear which is often compromised by fluids and congestion. While at first the news of his disability was difficult to digest we quickly realized that with the right tools in place Declan would be able to thrive & reach his true potential. Through MA State we were immediately eligible for Early Intervention and through Early Intervention we were introduced to Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech. Declan has been a playgroup student at Clarke for two years now and we could not be more grateful for all they have done for him. His weekly visits to Clarke allow him the opportunity to be around other children who are hard of hearing or deaf, in an educational environment that teaches specifically to his needs. As a parent all you want is the best opportunities for your children and over the past two years Clarke has done that for us (and more).
I'm so proud to be running this year's Falmouth Road Race as a member of the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech team. Your donation will help ensure that no child or family is turned away based on their inability to pay. Please support me in giving other children the opportunity and experience that Declan was able to have.
