Imagine kids who don't whine for stuff, but can determine if things are worth working for instead—Imagine fiscally responsible adults.
As a mom, I was tired of my kids whining for everything they wanted while shopping. They clearly didn't understand the value of money, where it came from and that we all have our spending limits!
And in talking to other parents, I knew I wasn't alone. The financial crisis is evidence enough that a lot of adults have a hard time in this capacity as well, but our education system is not equipped to correct the pattern. However, nothing on the market fulfilled everything that I was looking for to create more financially savvy children at a young age.
So, I started the company Fam-ess (which stands for Family First, Earn Always, Save Often and Spend Wisely), and created Quest to Clean Up! Our mobile app, which is currently in development (and launching soon!), teaches kids ages 3-15, the discipline to make spending decisions based on their willingness to earn and save, so that they are better equipped to side step debt as they grow.
Fam-ess has a mission to teach kids financial discipline long before going off to college or get their first job.
• On average, kids graduate college with $4100 in debt across 4 credit cards.
We want to teach kids how to earn, save and invest money wisely and make sound financial decisions so they can determine for themselves the impact of their "whines for wants". To help us, we create partnerships with financial institutions, educational programs and even industry partners who care about kids to help share this mission.
This fundraiser will help us distribute the app nationally, create new tips and content, and will also help us adapt the app so that teachers can use it in the classroom (we've had a lot of teachers asking for this) so we can reinforce the learning throughout the day! Please help us reach as many families as we can so we can stop the whining and start the learning!
