Family health literacy is the tact of incorporating basic health education into family literacy curricula. This horizontal integration fosters a strong and direct link between literacy and health, and has shown to have very positive results in an array of contexts; particularly in areas in which literacy rates, public health knowledge and advocacy are very low.
We plan to work in concert with local health providers in preparing and maintaining a monthly or bi-monthly presentation schedule. Using a tailored version (for our specific population) previously established family health curricula. The initial focus in education will be in three areas of public health. Overtime, we expect to grow educational programming to match the competency of the beneficiaries. Presentations will become more detailed and other areas within health education will be addressed.
The three areas of public health include maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, and environment and community health.
