Our mission is to reduce family homelessness in Southern Ocean County by empowering families to move steadily toward self-sufficiency collaborating with faith and community based organizations by providing shelter, meals and support services.
In response to the needs of homeless families in Southern Ocean County, New Jersey, eleven church congregations opened Family Promise of Southern Ocean County (FPSOC) in February 2009. Since then, FPSOC has helped 42 families, comprised of 151 individuals and including 94 children find suitable housing and stable employment opportunities. During the past six years we have used our vast network of volunteers to provide temporary shelter and hospitality for the families. We have also identified viable employment opportunities and helped them procure safe and affordable housing. Additionally, in order to maximize efforts to help families regain self-sufficiency, we coordinated services with other agencies to provide training for resume preparation, budgeting and financial management, GED preparation, and parenting skills, as well as counseling/ crisis management.
We are raising funds to expand our new Family Support Program which provides case management services to ensure accountability of each family through follow-up with direct assistance on basic life skills, parenting, connecting with community resources, and improving housing and employment situations. The Family Support Program enables FPSOC to increase the number of homeless families assisted by connecting them with resources in the community and empowering them to move steadily toward self-sufficiency.
In addition to our hospitality program with host sites and volunteers, personalized case management is the key to our families' success moving from hopelessly homeless to happily housed.
