Fancy's life saving surgery

Organized by: Dawn Meyer

Dawn's Photo

Fancy is a 5 year old tri-colored paint mare. Last week she was found with a nail in her hoof (the frog of all places). The next day our vet came out and opened the nail hole wider to allow infection to drain. Fancy was placed of two different antibiotics and pain medication. Since that day she has been getting oral and injectable antibiotics, leg soaked twice a day, iodine/sugar and a new bandage put on daily, pain meds, ice packs and wraps applied for swelling. Despite all of our attempts to make her better, fancy developed an abcess which ruptured out the heel bulb. I then got her into Abraham's equine clinic in Cedar Rapids where I learned just how bad it had gotten. We have two options. 1.) Surgery 2.) Euthanize Fancy. It seemed like a no brainer! She's 5 years old, the sweetest horse I have ever came across (even after all she is going through). If anyone is willing to help, we greatly appreciate anything anyone is willing to donate. Thank you so much in advance for your kindness
