FanFiction FanFilms for Charity: Wired
Organized by: Alex Kruse
Like movies and television? Like reading or writing fanfiction? Like giving to charitable causes?
Then FanFiction FanFilms (F4) is the right project to be supporting!
To put it short, we at F4 have made it our goal to take popular fanfiction stories and adapt them to the screen, bringing them to life in the form of fan films that already have a pre-existing audience. That way fans of the original source material and corresponding fanfiction stories can see more of their favorite characters come to life on screen!
Sound fun? Hold on, it gets better!
Because these are fan films, and therefore we are not able to make any sort of profit off of them, we've decided to also use our projects as a means to help raise money for selected charities relevant to each film. Not only are we making it a goal to keep filming costs down as low as possible so that more funds will go to charity, but our cast and crew consist of professionals in the entertainment field who have chosen to waive their normal rates in honor of the causes we're supporting. In honor of them and their willingness to work on our projects, we're going to make sure that every person who donates is not only helping us get the films made, but that a portion of each donation is automatically slated to go to the charity of choice, no matter what. So if you give us $5.00 or $500, some of your money will go to an organization in need. Every time.
What We Need & What You Get:
As much as we would like every cent to go to charity, unfortunately it does cost money to get a film made. That being said, we've done our absolute best to cut down costs as much as possible (to the point where other filmmakers think we must be nuts!) to make sure we're giving as much money to charity as we possibly can.
So what do we need to make the film?
Since our actors and crew have agreed to work for the sake of charity, your donations will be going towards production costs such as equipment rental, site insurance, set design, and funding for props; but have no fear, we're hitting thrift stores and Craigslist to get everything we need for as little out of our budget as possible! The goal is to spend less than our predicted budget, and that way whatever else we raise automatically goes to charity!
And what do you get out of it?
A high-quality fan film, for one! And if you've read the fanfiction story the film was adapted from, you get the pleasure of seeing one of your favorite fics brought to life! All for free! Each F4 film will be distributed on YouTube and Vimeo, so anyone is able to watch at any time.
You also get to feel good about the fact that a portion (or possibly all) of your donation goes to a worthy cause. For each donation we get up until the point that filming costs are covered, 10% of every donation will go to the charity of choice for each film. That means that for each donation that comes in after the goal has been reached, 100% of that money will be going to the charity organization.
Let's say that again:
100% of all funds made after the costs of filming are covered will go to charity. F4 is not making a single dime off any of our films. We're simply doing this for the experience, for the love of the fandoms, and to help support charitable causes.
For this particular F4 project, we've chosen to adapt a fanfiction titled Wired set in the universe of popular 2010 film and prior comic series, The Losers. We're taking the characters of Clay, Pooch, Aisha, Cougar, and the lovable Jensen and bringing them back for thirty minutes of comedic, shenanigan-filled fun!
The premise of the story?
The Losers have faced a lot of challenges together, but none like this. What do they do when their already-rambunctious computer genius gets a dose of something he didn't sign on for and goes into hyperdrive mode? For hours. Empathize with the team as they deal with Jensen during his highs and his lows, as well as a little thirst for revenge...
For each story that we choose to adapt, we'll always choose a charity that is relevant to the project we're shooting. For this film, Wired, because Jensen is the central character to the story, and because the character was portrayed by Chris Evans in the original 2010 The Losers film, we have chosen to donate our funds to Evans' personal charity of choice:
Christopher's Haven is not a hospital, but rather a whole community in which children who are battling cancer can do so with their families right there beside them. They can be with their families, as well as others like them who are fighting the same battles, creating a full support system for both the patients and their loved ones.
F4 is excited to be giving to such a worthy cause, and even if you choose not to support our film, we encourage you to click the link above and donate to their site directly. By doing so, you are helping a child fight for their future, and we consider that a win with or without our fan film.
Other Ways You Can Help:
Don't have anything to give, but want to see the film get made? That's okay! You can spread the word on your social network accounts as much as you please. Get your friends to Like our FB page, hit us up with a retweet once in awhile, or even go to our website and maybe suggest a fic that you'd like to see adapted one day!
Also, there's always a "Donate" button right on the homepage of our site, so even if you can't contribute now, you can send us whatever you want whenever you want at any time. Any donations made on the site will go towards the costs of the film in progress, and the 10% charity donation will always apply to the current charity of focus.
So if you support fandoms, fanfiction, fan films, fan art, and (of course) charities, then donate today!
