BENEFITING: ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2011
On March 20, I will be running the 2011 LA Marathon - my very first! Marathon training requires lots of discipline and this endeavor has required me to plumb the depths of my inner drill sargeant.
But mostly, I have been inspired by the example of my dad, Frank Kowalski. My earliest memories of him include regular sessions in the den or cellar doing his AIr Force exercises, riding his bike, and, of course, beating the pants off the young guys playing tennis.
At the age of 92, he isn't active anymore, largely due to late onset Alzheimer's. Despite the considerable challenges this disease presents, we are incredibly fortunate that he still knows us, still freely expresses his love for his family, still tells corny jokes, still croons love songs to my Mom while wandering around the house, and still gives the best hugs.
I am running to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association to support their efforts to advocate for those suffering from Alzheimer's, assist those caring for loved ones with the disease and to fund research to end it. Please support me and my cause by donating - no amount is insignificant!
