BENEFITING: Friedreichs Ataxia Research Alliance Fara
ORGANIZER: Friedreichs Ataxia Research Alliance Fara
On Sunday, November 5, I will be taking part in the New York City Marathon as a member of Team FARA. In an effort to prepare for this event, I will be taking part in a three marathon challenge in May and June. In the coming weeks, I will be running in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon on April 30, the Lake Placid Marathon
on June 11 and the Bay of Fundy International Marathon on June 25. I will be running these races in honor of my two amazing friends Sam and Alex Bode.
About 15,000 individuals in the United States are afflicted with Friedreich's Ataxia. FA is a progressive, life shortening and devastating disease. It robs people of their ability to walk, talk and use their hands. FA can cause heart disease, diabetes, severe scoliosis, hearing loss and blindness. Onset of the symptoms can vary from childhood to adulthood. Childhood onset of FA is usually between the ages of 5 and 15 and tends to be associated with a more rapid progression. Late onset FA (LOFA) can occur anytime during adulthood. FARA is supporting reaeaerch that will improve the quality and length of life for those diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxiaand will lead to treatments that eliminate its symptoms. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no treatment or cure for FA.
Please consider making a donnation to the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance. FARA is an incredible organization whose mission is to raise money to fund research in the hope of finding a treatment and a cure for FA. Every dollar raised will go directly to FARA. Although we are getting closer and closer to finding a cure, we are still not there yet. YOU can make a difference in our fight. No donation is too small and every dollar is greatly appreciated. The next time you are in line to order a cup of coffee or thinking of oredering a pizza for dinner, please consider making a donation to FARA instead. YOU can be part of something incredibly special.......kicking FA to the curb forever! We can get there, but we need your help.
I am often asked why I have decided to run so many marathons. The answer is quite simple: my friends deserve to live in a world without FA! Please help me spread awareness and provide some hope. With your help, we WILL put an end to FA forever!
