Our Mission & Programs

To raise awareness and funds in the US for the Matagalpan community's health, food, and education needs in Nicaragua.

  • Medical: Fara Clinic opened in 201 and quickly became a healthcare hub. By the end of its first year, the clinic was seeing over 40 patients a day. Services at the clinic are virtually free - $1.25 per visit, medical or dental.
  • Education: We support other committed nonprofits that operate in the Matagalpa region, such as Infancia sin Fronteras, a Spanish nonprofit that benefits more than 15,000 area students, building schools, providing teachers and serving free breakfast and lunch daily to those 15,000. We operate a private elementary school on one of the Fara Coffee fincas and supplement other public schools with supplies, as needs arise.
  • Eldercare: The founders of our organization have partnered with the Order of St. Ana’s Hogar de Ancianos San Francisco de Asis — “hogar de ancianos” (literally means “shelter for the elderly”). The Foundation underwrites 40 percent of the home’s operating budget, since 90 percent of the residents’ families are unable to contribute to their welfare. We work closely with the nuns at the hogar and believe in maintaining a high level of care.
  • Food Assistance: Due to an overwhelming need, in the mid-2000′s the foundation established a Food Assistance program that provides free sustenance for 35 to 50 families in the Matagalpa region. Their needs are determined by our local staff, who make visits to applicants’ homes to determine those at greatest risk. Monthly food baskets include maize, beans, rice, sugar and other basic commodities.
