EVENT DATE: Nov 24, 2010
HOURS PLEDGED: 90
I am working on this project as part of my internship.
In an effort to address the growing problem of child hunger, we are having a free community food distribution event featuring fresh & healthy food, cooking demonstrations, hands-on activities, give aways, and providing resources to access Health and Human Services programs. This event is open to anyone, but our target population is North County school age children and their families who are in need.
It is estimated that there are currently 273,000 children in San Diego County living in food insecure households. This means there is little to no food available at home. So far, in 2010, Feeding America San Diego has provided emergency assistance to approximately 73,200 persons a week. Sadly, among that population served, 46% are children under 18.
Our hope is to encourage healthy eating through distribution of fresh, healthy food and to also encourage physically active lifestyles through games and activites for the children.
We really need donations of food, childrens physical activity equipment, and backpacks (for the raffle) or money/gift cards to purchase these items. We also need volunteers to help the day of the event! Please contact me if you'd like more info.
If you would like to donate, I have made it super easy to do using PayPal!
