THE STORY:

A woman by the name of Denise L. Faustman is the director of the Immunobiology Laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She has worked in the field of autoimmunity for nearly two decades. In 2001, the Faustman Lab REVERSED type 1 diabetes in mice, a project that is now in human clinical trials. Dr. Faustman’s current research continues to focus on uncovering new treatments for type 1 diabetes and is believed to be the closest to finding the cure.

The lab differs greatly from many commonly known foundations, such as JDRF (Junior Diabetes Research Foundation), because of its morales. Unfortunately, large coorporations sometimes become corrupt and the donations and funding does not go directly to the disease/benefit. However, the Faustman Lab and the research conducted by them receives no Federal funding and is 100% supported by philanthropic individuals and foundations.

Her lab has a goal to raise $25 million, and currently has raised $13.5 million. With the help of many, I believe we can raise $1 million for the laboratory.
