Hello donors,
I would like to do one final update to all how have donated to the Nepal earthquake relief efforts.
I visited the village in late July which still resembles a refugee camp after a war. Everyone is living in temporary shelters made of tin and salvaged materials and looks traumatized. All the villagers were very grateful for the food supplies you all provided. That food is the only food they received since the quake. They are actively planting rice and gardens to feed themselves. Because we cannot rebuild 1000 homes, I asked how we can help them, help themselves. The answer was to build a milk station. This is a building where milk not used by the family could be measured, stored and sold to nearby cities. It is the only income generating source they have. The milk station will cost $25,000. It will consist of a two story 4 room building that will act as a community center, and be earthquake proof. It will have a stainless steel tank, centrifuge, and generator.
I know you have all given generously for relief. If you can give one last time for rebuilding, it would be gratefully appreciated and do so much to help the villagers get back on their feet, so that they can slowly save money to rebuild their homes on their own. Also, if you would like to go to Nepal to help work on the project please let us know at info@crookedtails.org

Sincerely on behalf of the people of Chandeni Nepal.

Thanks so much for your donation for Nepal.

I have spent well over a decade going to Nepal and this tragedy is breaking my heart. Follow our Crooked Trails Facebook page for ongoing relief effort updates.

Our first wave of relief efforts was completed on May 10th. We wired over the $22,350 on May 4th which purchased food for an entire village of 1100 families for 3 months. We also spent $2,690 on tents and tarps for the village of Gorkh, as well as $2,600 to get tarps for Okhaldunga village. Our relief was the only assistance these villagers had.
We are now raising funds to bring solar lights and to build earthquake proof schools.
100% of your donations will go towards our efforts in Nepal. 5% of that money is being used by our Nepali partners to pay staff to get supplies to villages (these people lost their livelihood of tourism). The Nepali people are amazingly strong with huge hearts and they will survive this. But they need our help now.

one week after the disaster, I received a short message from my 10 year old host’s son. (I have no idea how he managed to call) “ House is gone, cow is dead, I am fine. How are you sistah” His little voice was temporarily happy at the thought of speaking to someone on the other side of the planet.

If you are interested in being on the volunteer groups to rebuild to: http://crookedtrails.org/trips/nepal-rebuilding/#.VV4S3_lViko All trip costs and airfare are 100% tax deductible. You will have to be prepared for very rustic conditions including bathing in the river, sleeping on the ground, eating with your hands and using squatter toilets.

Harriet Baskas of NBC News just talked to me about tourism in Nepal

And finally for a truly moving video of Kathmandu before the quake watch this:
