BENEFITING: Fellowship of Christian Athletes
We are raising money for a service trip to the Dominican Republic (DR) for our 13-year-old Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Impact baseball team (a 501c3 organization). It will be a father/son trip that we run in partnership with GO Ministries stationed down in the DR. The trip is designed, as our team name bears, to make an IMPACT. This will be done on in four specific ways: 1) Our team will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and work within the poverty-stricken community of Santiago, DR working on service projects, such as building construction 2) The father/son structure offers an experience that is shared uniquely between each player and their dad and will hopefully facilitate a stronger foundation and dynamic to their relationship 3) Teaches the boys to work together as a team not just on the baseball field but off it as well, and to put others' needs ahead of their own 4) Share the love of God with the people of the DR, and to develop relationships with them through work and through baseball We will also have the opportunity to play baseball against local DR teams, and to develop relationships with the kids in the GO Ministries Baseball Academy. And kids in the DR can play baseball! Many people may find it surprising to hear that according to MLB, there are currently more than 125 players on active Major League rosters who are from the DR! No doubt, it will be an experience that these boys from the western suburbs of Chicago (many of whom have never left the US) will never forget. The 2018 trip will be our program's second annual trip. Our intent is for the 13U team to make this trip annually. Many youth baseball programs plan and fundraise for big trips to large tournaments like Cooperstown and others when the boys are 12 years old. FCA Impact, as an organization, does not. We would prefer to make this trip, which we believe will make more of a lasting impact not just on the lives of those in the DR but also on our sons. The money being raised will cover staying in a low-cost dorm on the GO Ministries grounds, food, travel expenses, and other related expenses. We are calculating that each father/son team needs to raise about $4,000. All donations are tax-deductible as FCA Impact Baseball is a 501(c)(3) organization. (**If you intend to donate $500 or more please contact us directly at email@example.com) Just as we did throughout our 2017 trip, we will be posting updates from the DR during our trip for you to keep everyone in the loop with our experiences and to allow everyone to participate in our trip. Thank you for your partnership and for helping to make this life-changing trip a reality!!
