THE STORY:

Helping Children Worldwide wrote -

Have you ever wondered when your next meal will be? Or Have you ever been so hungry you couldn’t think straight?  One in three children under the age of five are malnourished in Sierra Leone.  The FEED A CHILD campaign is an opportunity to feed the Sierra Leonean children and make a difference in their lives.  Children who are malnourished suffer greatly and are at greater risk for disease and infection.  The Feed a Child campaign supports the children at the Child Rescue Centre and the nutrition programs at Mercy Hospital in Bo, Sierra Leone.  To find out more about these programs visit www.helpingchildrenworldwide.org.

You can make a difference by helping the children of Bo, Sierra Leone grow up healthy and strong. What we are asking you to do is contribute to the Feed a Child campaign that provides children with life-saving sustenance which makes learning easier and builds the foundation for stronger more successful young adults.  Your $20 donation goes a long way in Sierra Leone to feed the children.  Please consider donating to our Feed a Child campaign so the children of Sierra Leone can eat and become strong and healthy for their country.

James and his mother
The first time I met Dr Tejan [he had just] received his new stethoscope from Dr Horner. He was overwhelmed with happiness from such a gift...moments later, as he was using that piece of equipment that caused him such joy, he became visibly upset at a mother whose small boy, 8 months old, was on the verge of death.  James was his name, and he was so sick, from malaria as well as malnourishment. Everyone was scared he would not make it, especially Dr Tejan.  Every day, I went to Mercy Hospital to see little James and offer his mother words of encouragement. I watched James as he suffered and over the course of the two weeks I was there, I watched him grow. He was getting stronger before my very eyes, and it was a gift to see (he even let me hold him our last day). Sister Taiwo and the nutrition program brought this little boy back to life through their hard work and dedication. They were not going to give up on James and his mother.
I feel very blessed to have seen the transformation in James and to have seen it unfold due to the great care that the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital provide for each patient.
