Feeding Homeless Students & Families
Organized by: Larry Tatum
My name is Larry Tatum, Executive Chef and former owner/operator of Mise en Place food truck. I experienced great success as a owner/operator of a food truck. But my great joy came from giving back to the community through providing restaurant quality meals to the homeless. It is my mission to get back to serving the community of the Orange, Seminole, and Osceola Counties again. My primary focus being on the homeless students and families. My mobile market will help fill the nutrition gap during school weekends, school breaks, and summer break by serving meals and providing groceries to child and families in transition in the Orlando area. According to an Orlando Sentinel article published, nearly one-fifth of all homeless public-school students across the state now live in Orange, Osceola or Seminole counties. With only a tenth of the state's total population, the tri-county area identified more than 13,700 homeless students last year — including families doubled up with relatives, living in motels, staying in shelters, sleeping in cars and camping in the woods. The actual number may be twice as high, officials said, because parents are sometimes wary of revealing their living situation. I would like to help! I want to be Bout my Father's Business. I would like, with your help, to form a non-profit group whose primary mission is to become partner with our local government in this endeavor to solve homeless and hungry for our young students. Our primary avenue will be a custom built food truck that will operate to provide meals for families especially on the weekend when there are no school meals available. To make this vision possible, we will transform a step van into a mobile kitchen and food pantry on wheels. Being mobile will allow us to reach more students and families in need of food. We will work with local churches, businesses, and government to raise and generate funds that will provide the monies needed to provide the food and maintain the mobile food unit. I know that I am just one person but hungry children just need one person that cares and provides the necessary food for them. I pray that you will support me in the mission to assist fighting homelessness and hunger in Central Florida. Any amount is appreciated. And all donated and monies collected will be used solely for feeding the children and maintaining the mobile food unit. Thank you in advance and may God richly bless you for your generous gifts.
