ORGANIZER: Feed The Children, Inc.
Hi! My name is Sarah and I am racing for Team FEED (Feed the Children) in the 2017 Tough Mudder Twin Cities. As part of this race, I pledged to raise $1000 to help end childhood hunger so that I can "make my mud matter!"
Feed the Children is a U.S.-based charity focused on ending childhood hunger. Feed the Children administers programs, both foreign and domesitc.
One of these domestic programs is the Summer Food & Education Program (SFEP). Over 12 million children receive free breakfast at school, and over 31 million receive lunches through the national school lunch program. For many, school meals are the only consistent food they get in a day. When the school year ends, so do school lunches. Without school meals, many of these kids go hungry every summer. SFEP works to make sure kids don't miss meals when they are out of school.
I grew up with the privilege of never having to wonder where my next meal would come from (some of my friends had this worry). I didn’t need to worry about if I would have food once school let out and I didn’t have free lunch any more (some of my friends had this worry). I never saved my lunch to eat before practice because I didn’t have enough to eat while playing sports or wouldn’t get dinner when I got home (some of my teammates had this worry). Because I never had these worries, it breaks my heart to know others have had, and still do have, these fears and the stress that goes with it. By running the race for Team FEED and raising money for Feed the Children, I am hoping to do my small part to help end childhood hunger.
