BENEFITING: Brady Center To Prevent Gun Violence
I am sad, I am scared and I am angry. I was a sophomore in high school when 2 students entered their school in Columbine, CO and killed their classmates. The nation was shocked. Terms like 'school shooting' and 'mass murder' were previously not part of our daily discourse. Within weeks the security at my high school was completely revamped and life in this new society began.
17 years later..270 attempted school shootings..countless mass murders...numerous motives...tremendous hate...all made possible by GUNS.
We now live in a society that reports on "another shooting" with great sadness but little surprise. Admittedly I hear these stories and they impact me for days. I get sad, I get scared and I get angry. Then I get busy. I forget about the tragedy and my outrage at the lack of change dissipates.
However, this time it's different for me. I am a mother now. I am no longer scared for myself, my friends and my family. I am scared for my son. I am no longer able to get busy and forget.
I am not running a marathon or even a 5K. I am too busy for that. But I am not too busy to help, to make change. Today I ignored my to do list, left dirty bottles in the sink, procrastinated paperwork and skipped a work-out so that I can do SOMETHING. I researched how to help and I made this page. It's not much, but its not forgetting. If you are sad. If you are scared. If you are angry, please don't forget. Do something....donate, volunteer, sign petitions.
