BENEFITING: BRIGHT PINK
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
On November 19, 2015 my world was turned upside down. I was always a very active person. I was either at the gym working out or running my three boys around to their various events. I ate organic fruits and vegetables (LOTS of vegetables) and very little meat. I was also an avid runner. I ran my first marathon in 2015 in Chicago. Just a few weeks after completing the marathon I discovered a lump in my breast. I didn't think much of it and figured it would just go away. A couple weeks later the lump remained and with the constant nagging of my husband to go to the doctor I agreed.
With my excellent health and lack of family history, no one suspected cancer. I thank God everyday my doctor (and the radiologist) had enough sense to run more tests and conduct a biopsy. On November 19, 2015 I heard the words I thought I would never hear, "You have cancer."
I made the choice to tackle my diagnosis head on. I completed 6 rounds of chemotherapy and had a double mastectomy. Chemotherapy is the worst thing I have ever had to go through and I do not wish it on my worst enemy. I hope one day that no woman will ever have to go through what I went through.
I learned a lot about breast cancer this past year. I want to help other women learn about breast cancer prevention and early detection. I have teamed up with Bright Pink to raise money to spread awareness on this horrible disease. Please consider donating and helping me reach my goal.
