On November 24th, 2014 I was deployed to Ferguson, Mo as a private security contractor in response to the potential threats of rioting and looting in the Michael Brown shooting case. On November 28th, 2014 while protecting my client (member of a national media outlet) and getting him out of harms way, I was arrested by the St. Louis County Police Dept. for peace disturbance. I was held in county jail for 26 hours with all charges dropped.
On December 16th, 2014 I received a letter from the St. Louis County courts stating that I was re-charged with 2 different crimes and I am to appear in front of a judge.
The night I was arrested I was hit with a baton, kicked, pushed and stripped of my firearm and body armor. I was supposed to be let go ASAP due to circumstances, and that was not honored. I was instead locked up and interrogated, and asked questions about my life and repeatedly asked in I was Muslim, and told well you look Muslim!
The St. Louis County police dept. knew who we were and why we were there. They had our names and photos, we also carried a letter stating as such. As of today March 16th I have finally received my property back. I have had to hire a private attorney to fight this case for me. (being a contractor I'm on my own). The County of St. Louis has decided to single me out; not one protester that was arrested with me that night was re-charged. .After the second court date the county has decided to offer me a plea deal of 2 years probation, payment for all court costs, a $2k fine, and I must go through the the Mo. State security guard licensing class (I'm not Missouri resident)
This has greatly effected my work, my family and overall mental state.
