THE STORY:

Hello Friends for Good!

So, I'm finally trying a new way to take donations and please bear with me as, for the next few months, I may try a few options as platforms for accepting your donations to the charities we choose.

As always, the goal of FFG is to bring to light some great charities with 4 star ratings and to individually give a little (or a little more) so we can all give a lot, together.

We are on the cusp of having raised $75,000! So proud of everyone and the Friends For Good commitment for doing good. Rock on.

This month's charity is Women of Tomorrow.  With Hillary Clinton dealing with the blood clot, she's been on my mind a lot.  I was thinking about how empowering and motivating it is for young women (and old women!) to see women like HIllary in such influential positions.  And, how fostering education, mentoring and confidence among young women can only help our society and nation develop.

From their site: WOT is believed to be the only program of its kind in the country, pairing extremely accomplished professional women with small groups of at-risk teenage girls in public high schools for monthly mentoring sessions in a three to four year mentoring program. WOT mentors are highly accomplished professional women including judges, doctors, lawyers, airplane pilots, newscasters, executives, and entrepreneurs who are dedicated to showing WOT mentees all the possibilities that exist.

Currently, Women of Tomorrow operates in 43 Florida and 13 Metro Detroit cities serving over 2,500 at-risk young women annually in 130 public high schools with our network of over 350 highly accomplished professional women. We have awarded over $3 million in scholarships to more than 1,000 deserving young women to pursue higher education. In Fall 2011, with support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, we expanded to Metro Detroit, and will launch in Philadelphia, PA in Fall 2013, and Charlotte, NC in 2015.

WOT mentees graduate from high school at close to a 92% rate compared to county wide high school graduation rates that hover around 60%.
