Founded in 1990 to relieve hunger and prevent nutritious food waste in metro Detroit, Forgotten Harvest rescues surplus, perishable food from over 800 sources and donates it to our 280 agency partners.
Our Million Meal Challenge for Kids Program will provide healthy sack lunches to metro Detroit children who are hungry and food insecure during the summer, when they lose access to school-subsidized meal programs. With your help, we will provide over 100,000 sack lunches during the summer months to 40 agency sites facilitating programs for at-risk and low-income children. We will also distribute 900,000 pounds of food through mobile sites in underserved metro Detroit neighborhoods.
1 in 4 children in metro Detroit struggle with hunger and food insecurity, while in the City of Detroit, the numbers are even more discouraging with 1 in 2 children at-risk. Please donate, set-up your own fundraising page or share our story with your friends and family. Remember: everyone can make a difference and each person's contribution is significant!
