BENEFITING: FLYING KITES
EVENT DATE: May 16, 2015
Everyone who knows me, knows how much I love running for long periods of time by myself through the steep, cold Blue Mountains wearing a head torch and thermal underwear for company.
NOT REALLY. You're confusing me for Alex Massey.
But I'm taking on the North Face 50 (a 50km trail run through the Mountains) this May to raise money for Flying Kites, home to some of the cutest kids on earth and, more recently, my twin sister Pip.
Flying Kites are doing some pretty cool stuff in the little town of Njabini (Njabs to the locals.) They have built a primary school and a home for children who would otherwise have nowhere to turn. They focus on care, education, compassion and leadership. Children who have suffered the devastating effects of poverty (real poverty, not "can't afford the guacamole on my burrito" poverty) are being empowered to change the world. And they're doing it with some killer dance moves up their sleeve (see here. Seriously, click there.)
Anyway, the 50 should be great fun. Or hell on earth. But it will make things a little bit easier if I at least know the 37 kids at FK are getting something out of it too.
Thanks in advance!
