Fight Against Bylaw Silencing Social Media Voices in Canada
Organized by: Anais Lockhart
Imagine if you were told that for every insult you posted on Facebook, Twitter or on your Tumblr blog, you would be fined $100 to $1000? This is not a dream, and would fast become a reality in the city of Granby, Quebec, if the municipality managed to approve this bylaw.
This is the reason why I am starting this fundraiser. I will channel all proceeds to CAFE - the Canadian Association of Free Expression so that together, we will rise against the tyranny of this municipality who seeks to stifle freedom of speech and free expression by imposing a fine for everyone who insults a police officer online. If this bylaw is approved, we may see a misuse of power whereby people can be fined for saying just about anything disagreeable only as it will be constituted as an insult.
I urge you to support this cause and to donate as much as you to the Canadian Association of Free Expression.
