Fighting Fire with Fire: Help Sarah and Patrick!
Organized by: Sarah Merriman
Hi, everyone! Sarah and Patrick are two absolutely wonderful people. She is a feminist PoC activist with years of helping and speaking on various causes (heck, I bet she's helped you out before!). When they arrived home on Saturday (9/5), they discovered that their apartment building in Brooklyn had a roof fire. They are both safe, but their hole has a wall in it, their possessions are waterlogged, and they are likely going to have to find new housing at the last minute. Please consider helping these two wonderful people find a safe place to live. They have given a lot to the world in terms of kindness, positivity, activism, and heart. Let's pay it forward, as best as we can. With love and gratitude, Gillian
Thanks for reading up on us! We're Sarah and Patrick, and we recently made Brooklyn our home. After months of financial and health crises, this week, we talked about how Brooklyn was finally starting to feel like a home. On Saturday, after a day at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and a farmer's market, we got a call-there had been a fire. We came home to a huge hole in our apartment where the posters Patrick has loved for years once hung. My extensive garden had been trampled, and our furniture was sitting in 5 inches of water. After a childhood spent in a wildfire zone and a life of moving over and over to find a safe home, it had all crumbled again.
By many accounts, we got lucky-we have somewhere to stay, people who love us, and we are both safe. But, of course, there are losses to recoup. I don't typically ask for help, but we've been overwhelmed by your offers of love and support, and have jointly decided to accept our friends' offer to accept this Crowdrise. If you cannot or do not want to donate, that's completely ok! Your words are enough.
Thank you again!
