Fighting Leukemia with Avery
Organized by: Misty Angle Black
Averyana (Avery) is a very happy 22 month old baby girl. On August 7, 2015 our world was rocked when she was diagnosed with leukemia. In her short life, this isn't her first fight on her journey...it started at conception: She is a mono mono twin. Her and her sister, Adriyana, shared a placenta and sac with no dividing membrane. This allowed for their umbilical cords to become tangle, braided and knotted very early making their pregnancy extremely high risk. We were given only a 50/50 chance of survival for both her and Adriyana. They were born premature at only 27 weeks and spent 7 weeks in the NICU before they got to come home. Due to prolonged time on a ventilator Avery developed a condition called BPD which led to her being on oxygen for several months after she came home. In March 2015 we discovered a rash on Avery's face and arms. I took her to the ER only to be told this was a simple viral rash that would clear up on its own. By the end of July there were still remnants of the rash and she began spiking high fevers. There were no other symptoms with the fevers so we assumed she may be cutting teeth. After a week of still having fevers we took her to her pediatrician. The doctor again thought it may just be a viral infection because she seemed to be getting better. By that following weekend, after 2 days without a fever, she spiked again and also was acting as though it was painful to walk. Back to the doctors for blood work. The next day we were told to come in for the results and then admitted into the children's hospital for observation. Two days later we heard the words we feared most, "Your daughter has leukemia." So here begins the next leg in the journey of Avery's battle for life. Can you, will you support this beautiful baby girl in her fight to kick Leukemia's butt?!?! There are blood transfusions, bone marrow transplants, medical bills, life bills (house, utilities, etc) to help her parents with. There may eventually be chemo and medications...can you, will you help?!?!
